Dana Point Marine Life Refuge

The Dana Point Marine Life Refuge contains some of the best rocky intertidal habitat in Southern California. At low tide sea anemones, star fish, octopus as well as a variety of shell fish can be observed, Dolphins can often be seen just off shore feeding on the abundate marine life.

A walk along the rocky beach reveals sea caves, ancient earthquake faults and the unique geology of the Dana Point Headlands. The marine life refuge is located at the far west side of Dana Point Harbor and can be reached by parking at the Ocean Institute lot and following the paved path to shore.

RULES FOR GENTLE EXPLORATION

  • Never remove animals, shells or rocks from the tidepools.
  • Never pick up animals..observe them where they are.
  • Walk gently, taking care not to step on plants or animals.
  • Never turn over rocks.
  • Never Pick up moving shells. .
